Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has voiced his commitment to supporting ecosystem restoration efforts across Indonesia as the government moves to accelerate the recovery of degraded forest areas, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni stated.

He made the statement while attending the 2026 National Nature Conservation Day event organized by the Ministry of Forestry at the Angke Nature Tourism Park in Jakarta on Monday.

“Personally, I feel tremendous support from Mr. President to carry out ecosystem restoration efforts,” Antoni remarked.

The minister noted that Prabowo had reiterated his pledge to safeguard natural ecosystems on multiple occasions, most notably in his speech during last year’s session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the high-level forum, he continued, the president reassured the international community of Indonesia’s determination to restore 12 million hectares of degraded land across its territory.

He added that the targeted area covers 6.7 million hectares of forests and 1.27 million hectares of conservatory land.

Antoni further highlighted the head of state’s instruction to significantly increase the number of forest rangers to strengthen surveillance and law enforcement in conservation areas.

He pointed out that the government had set a target of expanding the force to 21,000 personnel, with recruitment planned for at least 3,000 rangers in the near term.

Describing ecosystem protection and restoration as challenging tasks, he stressed that the government remains determined to achieve environmental sustainability objectives despite limited budgets and vast areas requiring intervention across the archipelago.

“As a policymaker and regulator, the state faces limitations. Even so, we still have many options to pursue in this cause, including welcoming cooperation opportunities with any parties acting in good faith,” the minister affirmed.
